Five Star Reviews:
Mario has Returned!
November 10, 2017
**The following review is rather in-depth, and longer than the average amazon review. I tried to keeps spoilers minimal. Just an FYI, now onto the review.**
Super Mario Odyssey is the best reason to go out and buy a Nintendo Switch right now. It is, hands down, one of the best Mario games ever made, and one of the best 3-D Platformers I have ever played. Even after you "beat†the game, there is so much more to do. The game manages to recapture the old, sandbox style 3-D Platformer that we saw in Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and games like Banjo Kazooie. Odyssey manages to update and modernize the concept, and tweak it to near perfection. No doubt about it, Odyssey is a must own. With that to say, I hope you enjoy my review for this incredible game!
Story: Story has never been a Mario game's strong suit. Odyssey isn't too different. The game opens-up with Mario fighting Bowser, a fight which Mario loses. Bowser then kidnaps princess Peach yet again, only... read more
This game gives nostalgia and takes you back to that feeling of playing Super Mario 64 for the first time.
November 6, 2017
All in all, this game is great. The motion controls are nice, and give an added touch to the game overall. I mainly play with the Pro controller, and the motion controls are still present. This game features many old and new characters, all that made me think "Hey, I haven't seen this character since Super Mario World!" The 2D features are a nice added touch. I think this element really pulls in gamers from the older generation and new alike. I have completed the Story Mode and still have quite a bit of gameplay left. I questioned defeating the final boss because I thought that would be the end of my fun. Turns out it was not. Most games don't have that.
It is a great game, don't hesitate to pick it up. It brought back nostalgia I didn't even remember was there. :)
Such a fun addition to the Mario universe
November 4, 2017
Such a fun addition to the Mario universe! Was a little weary and confused by the whole hat thing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's so fun! So far I have only played with the JoyCons on the device for portability, but there are lots of movements that the controllers can do when docked, or using without the JoyCons attached. Definitely worth the buy!
It is that good

Like most people I was disappointed when the game suggested to detach the joycons for extra moves. I never play my Switch docked, I play on the go and in bed. I also think that the game is way too easy. On the other hand, there are really cool things, I love the 2d parts and some stages have some really cool stuff. Buy it of course, it will be great fun.
The Largest, most Creative Mario Yet!
October 27, 2017
It's been years since a traditional Mario platformer has been released. Super Mario Odyssey took what made the two Galaxies on the Wii great and improved the tried-and-true formula immensely. Even a master player will take at least a dozen hours to complete the main story.
The levels are gorgeous and expansive. Playing the game is like entering Wonderland as Alice for the first time. There's no telling what enemies, power-ups and traps are hidden behind the next corner. Success in these games requires quick wits, sharp reflexes and the resourcefulness to adapt to new situations on the fly. Remember, you're vastly outnumbered, and in most stages, you start out unarmed.
Every Mario game has new features of one sense or another, and Odyssey allows you to control enemies and manipulate the environment by throwing your cap. Making the most of this ability will be necessary to progress further in the game (and uncover all the secrets, if you're a completionist like me).
Top Switch Game; Nostalgic Mario Fun
October 27, 2017
This epic Mario game is one of the top 2 Nintendo Switch games in my mind, with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild being the other one. The game brings back fond memories from other Mario games and introduces new, fun ideas that bring a fresh look to the Mario franchise. The game can be learned by just about anyone, but the mastery of it will take some time. I highly recommend this for all Nintendo Switch owners!
I grew up playing the Mario games ever since the first Super Mario Bros. on the original NES. My favorite Mario game up to this point was Super Mario 64, which was an amazing game. The new Super Mario Odyssey has brought back things from other Mario games and packed it in with a bunch of new fun ideas.
In this episode of the Mario series, Mario travels the world in his ship, the Odyssey, to save Princess Peach from Bowser, once again. He uses Cappy, a character posing as Mario's hat, to capture enemies and random objects in order to solve problems and... read more
Fun for the Family
October 27, 2017
My review is from the "father of a toddler" perspective. For those of you who have a child on the younger side, and you still enjoy Mario, don't hesitate to buy this game! My son can sit and watch this as if it is a cartoon and remains entertained the entire time. Sometimes he will say "make Mario do this" and is excited when it happens on screen. As someone who is a bit older but still enjoys games, it is a treat to find a game that entertains my son while I play.

After playing BOTW and feeling that it made me feel like a kid again
November 15, 2017
I bought a switch because of this game and BOTW. After playing BOTW and feeling that it made me feel like a kid again, I had even higher hopes for this game. Super Mario Odyssey is a great game. I really enjoyed the acrobatic moves that Mario can perform in this game. It really compels you to try and do trick jumps whenever possible. Sometimes I found myself trying to do trick jumps to get to places, rather than taking the easier path. There are definitely challenging moments in the game as well. Overall though, the games difficulty was clearly tuned towards more casual and younger players. I wouldn't call that a negative though. I don't know what it was about this game but I just never really felt super pumped to play it. I got 350 moons and I stopped. Where as BotW I felt highly motivated to just explore and walk around everywhere, I didn't feel that way with Mario. The game was good and I think most people will like it, but something felt missing to me. I'm sure a... read more
Outside the hype, looking past the gimmicks.
November 5, 2017
Mario Odessey is easily the most hyped Mario since Mario 64. Unlike I refected on my opinion and changed with time. Now I've beaten every major Mario release excluding the Galaxy games. I ignored all gameplay and trailers after the E3 presentation as to go in fresh. So does it live up to the hype?
Sort of... Gameplay first and it is snappy. The games features dynamic resolution to achieve 60 frames per second. In the PC community there is a saying,"Give me 60 or give me death." It makes the game control easier, panning the camera and motion is smooth. This makes controlling Mario top notch. The new hat mechanic is an interesting new twist, but at the cost of power ups. Which I did miss. It is fun controlling the enemies, and each have different capabilities to help progress and find moons. Eh the moons. The single laziest thing in the game. There are hundreds of them but you only need a fraction of that. So it's easy. The hat can also whip around using motion to beat... read more
